The Changing Story Of Fashion In Decades

admin  |  2023-09-15

As a deep sense of fashion and style, my every blog tells people how they can style and what fashion brings to them. There is always been a strong connection and attraction between me and fashion. When it comes to fashion it always comes to my mind that fashion is a dynamic form of self-expression that constantly evolves with time.

As we all can see with the invention of sewing machines and cotton gins clothing companies were able to considerably accelerate the manufacturing process. In this blog, I want to tell people how fashion has changed with how it found new ways and has become more contemporary. This resulted in the mass production of clothing, allowing fashion brands to simplify patterns, improve affordability, and increase the frequency of changes in designs.

Although, on a long-term effort, different decades have showcased distinctive styles that reflect their respective eras` cultural, social, and political climates. I chose this topic to explore the old fashion trends like the 1980s and 1990s and compare them to the present day to spread awareness to people. While the ‘80s & ‘90s were the era that was familiar for their bold, exaggerated looks, today`s fashion landscape is characterized by a more eclectic and individualistic approach.

So if you want to know about the changing story of fashion in decades keep continue reading and let’s delve into the fascinating world of dressing up, analyzing how trends have transformed over the years.

The Old Fashion Sense

If you ask me about old-fashioned sense then I want to describe it in just two simple words it was ‘Bold and Glamorous’. The old era like the ’80s & ’90s marked a significant departure from the fashion norms of previous decades. These eras were a time of extravagance, individualism, and self-expression where people loved to look bold and more glamorous.

This was an era that was heavily influenced by the rise of pop culture, music, and even the political landscape. Women`s fashion was characterized by vibrant colors, power suits, oversized shoulder pads, and bold patterns. However, Iconic trends such as leg warmers, neon colors, and spandex became synonymous with the era.

Madonna and Michael Jackson are popular 1980s fashion icons who greatly influenced the fashion choices of the time. Madonna`s punk-inspired looks, layered accessories, and fishnet stockings became iconic, while Michael Jackson popularized military-inspired jackets and the infamous white glove.

Hairstyle

There is always a major role of hairstyle for defining the personality or the overall personality of a person. Here I want to define the old era by hairstyling. Big, voluminous hairdos were in vogue, with both men and women embracing perms, mullets, and teased hairstyles. Amongst women, large hair-dos, puffed-up styles, permanent waves, and softer cuts typified the decade was the priority.

Makeup

The old-era makeup was bold, sharp, and equally dramatic, with bold and bright colors dominating the scene. Foundation was applied in layers and was typically two shades lighter than the natural skin tone (like Madonna`s look from the 1987 AMAs). Blush was a must, applied in bright pinks and deep plums at an angle from the hollow of the cheek to the temple. Blue eyeshadow, neon lipstick, and heavy blush were common sights.

Fashion Now

As we all live fast forward to the present day, fashion has taken a different turn so the same two words I want to say for today are ‘Eclectic and Individualistic’. With the rise of social media and the democratization of style, today`s fashion landscape is all about personal expression and embracing diversity.

In my opinion, there is no singular dominant trend, but rather a myriad of subcultures and style tribes coexisting and inspiring one another. Fashion trends today are influenced by a mix of nostalgia, sustainability, and a quest for individuality.

Today’s Style

Vintage and retro styles from the ‘80s and other past decades are making a comeback, as people seek to recreate and reinterpret the iconic fashion moments of the past. However, this time, there is a greater emphasis on sustainability, with thrift shopping and upcycling becoming popular for fashion-forward individuals.

One of the most notable aspects of contemporary fashion is the increased focus on inclusivity and body positivity. The industry has become more representative, showcasing a wider range of body types, ethnicities, and gender identities. This shift has given rise to movements like gender-neutral fashion and the celebration of individuality in all its forms.

If we compare today’s fashion to the old era, present-day fashion is marked by minimalism, cleaner lines, and a more subdued color palette. Neutral tones, earthy shades, and monochromatic outfits have gained popularity, emphasizing a timeless and elegant aesthetic.

However, bold and daring choices still find their place in modern fashion, but they are often balanced with subtler elements to create a more sophisticated look. Fashion is a reflection of society and its values, constantly adapting and reinventing itself. While the old eras were a time of boldness and excess, today`s fashion scene embraces diversity, individuality, and sustainability.

I hope my blog differentiated the difference between the old fashions vs. now as the old era introduced people to unforgettable trends and iconic fashion moments that still inspire designers and fashion enthusiasts today. By contrasting the vibrant and glamorous styles of the ‘80s with the eclectic and individualistic.

Lastly, you all need to keep yourself updated with the fashion trends to keep your personality dashing because we are living in an era where every next person becomes a personality just because of his style and fashion. So always try to adopt fangled style and fashion because your styling and sense of fashion talk before you start talking so be fashionable and let your style reveal your personality!
